Making Unique Textures Two Day Class with Julia Rai

One of the best things about working with metal clay is the way it takes texture. When you first start using metal clay, it's very easy to use the commercially available texture sheets and rubber stamps.Julia Rai encourages artists to find unique textures, using everyday objects to make great designs.

Most of the textures made during the two day Unique Textures class can also be used with sheet metal in a rolling mill. That makes this class equally suitable for silversmiths and jewellers.

This class is designed to take your creative use of texture to a new level. You will learn to make your own rubber stamps using Photo Polymer Plates (PPP). Taking black and white line designs, you can create unique textures for your metal clay.

The class explores the use of Polymer Clay to make texture sheets both by carving and by using a variety of objects to create sheets you can use again and again.

A number of other texture making techniques will be explored including the use of everyday objects, paper and cardboard.

Finally, you will learn the 'tear away' technique. This method allows you to make low relief texture sheets which are ideal for use with Keum-Bo.

The focus of the course is for you to make a variety of textures and we will not be making any metal clay items during the two days. A selection of designs will be available for you to experiment with and you will have access to design books, photocopiers and printers to design your own patterns.
